NAMA Forays

Wildacres, North Carolina Foray | October 7-10, 2010

Wildacres Retreat is situated at 1,600 feet elevation just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This regional foray is very relaxed, with lots of time to both learn and socialize, and attracts mushroomers from all over the US. Dr. Brandon Matheny of the University of Tennessee will serve as Lead Mycologist, Dr. Walt Sundberg will be Recorder, and Dr. Patrick Leacock will serve as an identifier.

Camp Sequanota Joint Foray
Jennerstown, Pennsylvania | October 8–10, 2010

The annual Camp Sequantoa Foray of the Mycological Association of Washington, DC is being held jointly with the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club. Guest mycologists will be John Plishke III and Noah Siegel. Camp Sequanota is located near Jennerstown in the Laurel Highlands of Western Pennsylvania.

The Great Alberta Mushroom Foray & Leni Schalkwijk Memorial Foray
September 1-4, 2010 | Canmore, Alberta

The “Great Alberta Mushroom Foray” will be held on the September Long weekend, September 1–4, 2010. The location will be in the beautiful Kananasakis and Bow River Valleys near Canmore, Alberta just outside Banff, Alberta. More information can be found at the Alberta Mycological Society website.

57th Annual Charles Horton Peck NY State Mushroom Foray
September 17–19, 2010 | Painted Post, NY

Time to sign up for the Peck Foray! We're meeting at the beautiful Watson Homestead Conference and Retreat Center in upstate New York, near Corning. Dr. George Hudler will present, 'Great Moments in History and How Fungi Got Us There.' The Cornell Plant Pathology Herbarium would like to introduce you to George Atkinson, an early Cornell mycologist and contemporary of Peck. And of course we always find interesting things, and everybody learns a lot, and isn't it lovely to hang out with fellow mushroom people, who never imply you're crazy for liking fungi!

Northeast Mycological Foray 2010
September 23-26, 2010 | Kerhonkson, NY

The next Sam Ristich Foray will be held at the Soyuzivka Ukrainian Cultural Center in Kerhonkson, NY. There are nearly 400 acres of land and two miles of trails at Soyuzivka. One day in September 2009, more than 60 taxa were found in one hour! Walk sites will take advantage of over 15,000 acres within a short distance of the Heritage Center. In September there is usually enough rain to hydrate the soils of this region for plentiful mushrooms.

Breitenbush Mushroom Conference

The 2010 Mushroom Conference will celebrate 25 years of gathering, enjoying, and learning about mushrooms at Breitenbush Hot Springs. Dr. Thom Odell, professional mycologist will lead the sessions of mushroom identification. Chef Michael Blackwell will share mushroom cooking techniques.
